the population of Goniolimon tataricum

from Blaj - Dealul Crucii (Alba county)

The population was mentioned by Al. Borza in 1965 but seemingly it was known from a longer time in the XIXth century. It is placed strangely in a very degraded steppe xeric grassland, in a context within which the species normally should not be able to survive. However, since the overgrazing ceased here from the end of the first world war, probably a remnant group of individuals was able to reconstruct the population which now consists of an appreciable number of well developed plants.

There was a quite appreciable number of plants present in this population (in the summer of 2008) which is situated exactly above the central part of the city of Blaj. The Google Earth file with the populational data can be downloaded here .
